"Images of Fashion. Study Gallery", a Review of the World of Fashion

Exhibition 27/04/2010

The Disseny Hub Barcelona's (DHUB) Montcada Street headquarters has set up, there since March 1, "Images of Fashion. Study Gallery" [Imágenes de moda. Galería de estudio, in Spanish], a selection of 216 prints from the over 10,000 that are housed in Barcelona's Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària.

"Images of Fashion. Study Gallery" is an exhibition focused on prints, which gives visitors the chance to get a closer look at the origins of fashion design, illustrating the evolution of the systems that represent fashion: from the first prints and mannequin dolls to photography, television and new online communication channels.

What's more, this constitutes the third exhibition curated by Sílvia Ventosa, head curator of the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària, which forms part of an activity cycle that DHUB kicked off last January with the exhibition "Outumuro LOOKS. Twenty years photographing fashion". Both types help delve further into the analysis and documentation of two systems of constructing and representing fashion: prints and photography.

The exhibition opens with mannequin dolls, the so-called French dolls that, as early as the 16th century, promulgated fashion throughout the French provinces and European Courts. We find them arranged on a moving runway, as if at a fashion show. To one side we find the prints (the first half of fashion graphics), arranged by decade and century, to thereby visualise the evolution, and catalogues, from both large warehouses and designers, along with fashion magazines, photos, fashion shows, themed television channels, blogs and specialised Internet portals.

"Images of Fashion. Study Gallery" can be seen until June 20, 2010, in the DHUB Montcada Espacio 0, located at 12 Montcada Street.
